Micah
The
prophet Micah was a contemporary of Isaiah. His message was one of judgment with
promise for restoration.
Micah 1 –
Announcement of
Judgment. •Calling: nations called to see their judgment in
Israel's judgment. •Coming: God's coming to earth to judge is
awesome—mountains melt, etc. •Cause: sin brings judgment.
•Curse: God's judgment will destroy the idols. •Crying: the
prophet laments over the judgment that comes upon the land.
Micah 2 –
Annotations About
Judgment. •Accusations: the various deeds of wickedness
cited. •Anathema: evil will be rewarded with evil. •Attack:
the prophet's message of judgment is opposed, the people prefer false prophets.
•Alleviation: the promise of restoration for Israel is given.
Micah 3 –
Areas for Judgment.
•Princes: the wicked leaders oppress the people cruelly yet pray to God
in time of trouble. •Prophets: the false prophets (they cause
people to err, pay decides how they prophesy; and they will in judgment be put
in the dark spiritually); the true prophet (Micah in contrast to false
prophets prophesies in power and truth).
Micah 4 –
Administration of the
Judge. •Power: Jehovah (Christ) will rule in power on
earth. •Prudence: other nations will seek Him for instruction.
•Peace: He will bring peace to earth. •Prosperity: He will
bring prosperity. •Piety: He will bring true worship.
•Passion: He will care for the needy. •Prospects: in Him is
hope for Israel in spite of judgment.
Micah 5 –
Action of Judgment.
•Distress: the attack upon Jerusalem. •Deliverer: a ruler
(Christ) from Bethlehem is the Great Deliverer. •Design: Israel will be
abandoned at first then restored; judgment is remedial. •Deliverance:
from Assyria—a type of end-time deliverance.
Micah 6 –
Acquittal in Judgment:
God is justified in judgment. •Review of history: shows God's goodness
to Israel. •Revelation of duty: justice, mercy, humbleness. •Reason
for judgment: various sins. •Report of judgment: details
stated.
Micah 7 –
Attitude in Judgment:
•Guile of man: good men have perished, evil men do evil earnestly,
no one can be trusted, judgment is needed. •Greatness of God: greatness
in goodness (He will deliver though He disciplines); greatness in
grace (He pardons as no other god).
